Best for filming sailing

We have decided upon the best camera for filming the sailing. The Panasonic easily won with its long recording time, heavyweight battery, and really good motorised zoom lens.

Cleat to help pull ropes

Finding tools to make life a bit easier. This cleat can go over any rope and help pull it. Using the handle and some strong jaws, the rope is gripped, and far more force can be applied to it.

I'm continuing the computer upgrades—does it ever stop? I'm adding an additional 2 TB drive to the ASUS laptop, giving it 2x 2TB Drives.

Telemetry Software

I'm experimenting with some Telemetry Overlay Software to grab and display the GPS data on the boat on the video. So far, the results look quite impressive.

Wind Speed

Before going out in the boat, I check the wind speed and direction. Bringing the water flow meter also helps me work out the water's current speed. I bring a little science to help with my sailing.

Fun Saiing

While many members got ready to race, we did fun sailing. Starting before the rest of the fleet, we were rapidly overtaken and lapped several times.

Creating Music for the sailing video

I'm composing, synthesising, and layering tracks to create a suitable soundtrack for the sailing video series. Work still needs to go into the signature tune to make it better and more memorable.

Filming the Steam Engine

Had the steam engine out with its workshop. Paul was trying to get good angles to see what was going on and how it all worked. The Panasonic camera worked well here with its top handle and adjustable up-facing screen.

Rudder Cam

The ATC Chameleon is unique in that it can simultaneously show where you are going and where you have been. It is excellent as a rudder cam.

Filming from the safety Boat

Filming from the Safety Boat. Since we had to follow the sailing boats we tried to get some shots from the water of the boats. There was not a lot of wind but we still managed a few action shots.

Safety Boat Duty

We missed our turn in the Safety Boat at Easter because of the bad weather, so Paul and I were out in the Safety Boat today. We did the morning and afternoon races. We get points in the race for this—maybe the only ones we will get.

Filming and Photos

Much of the work we do requires not just video but often pictures as well. This is where the Canon R5C scores being able to do both excellently.

LIghts, Camera Sound

Who would think it would be so difficult to set up a few cameras, get the angles correct, get the sound levels just right, and have lights that don't get in the way, just to do a Zoom session on an organ?

Poll Clerk

I drove my son to the Polling station at 6:30 a.m. this morning so he could be a Poll Clerk. It was pouring with rain, and we only have the Police and Crime Commissioner to vote for. I reckon he will be lonely today.

Editing Time

Filming takes a long time, but the editing seems to take even longer, and often you find that you should have shot from a different angle  to improve the film. With 360 camera footage at 4k or 8k, choosing the best angle and punching in, is easy.
