Nearly 1 view on TubeBuddy

Despite having over 8 million views and 51 thousand subscribers on YouTube, Tubebuddy reports significantly lower figures. Even with the Pro version, which has not been functioning properly for several weeks, the reported numbers remain inaccurate.

More BSC EXpo

One of my favourite shows of the year, where the gear is aimed at what we do. @BSC_EXPO 2023 It gives us new ideas and we can see some of the gear that we can save up for. #bscexpo

BSC Expo

At the BSC Expo Saw a great idea on the @CVPgroup stand from 9.Solutions #cvpbsc2023. We do quite a bit of macro work and this seems to be an answer to problems.

Connection restored

A highly skilled Openreach engineer dedicated nearly an entire day to help restore my internet connection after it was accidentally cut by another company installing fibre. Despite encountering a crushed conduit, the engineer tirelessly attempted to replace the damaged cable for several hours. In the end, he expertly patched the cable and ensured that our system was fully functional, providing us with a reliable internet connection once again.

Another broadband company lots of problems for me

came around yesterday to install broadband for a neighbour. They made a hole which blocked my car in the drive and then cut through my broadband cable, so No notice given, no car, no internet, no phone, no TV, no Alexa to control the lights, No Help ... No work

Synthesizer and Oscilliscopes

Making sounds on the synthesizer but also looking at the waveforms, making adjustments not based on the sound but on the oscilloscope display Do good-looking sounds sound good as well? It's fun finding out.

Creating Shorts

I find that creating shorts takes as much time to make as longer YouTube videos and the editing seems to take even longer.

Rodecaster 1 screen angle

We use the Rode caster Pro version 1. It does all we need it to do. My only complaint is seeing the screen when we broadcast, a problem solved in version 2. But can I really justify upgrading just for a better angle on the screen? I think not.

Original Music

Getting original Music for a video is always a problem. AI is one way around this. Sometimes I just play and see what happens or I play a well-known tune in the style of Eric Morecambe.

VCV Synthesiser

Creating soundtracks and Music. Now the hard work begins. Using VCV with Ableton Live 11, designing and creating sounds and effects for the synthesiser and integrating it all together into something that someone might be able to recognise.

Novation SL Mark 3

A Novation SL Mark 3 with Ableton Live 11 has been added to the normal lineup of equipment, to make some more/better music for the various projects. Normally I use an organ but now a synthesizer.

Video Work

Creating the video on Gay-Lussacs Law. Capturing the @Pascoscientific data in Capstone into the ATEM so that we can put both into the video to show what is happening in real-time and for the recording.

Canon R5C

When is a Camera not a camera? The canon R5C seems to be in this category. The R5 Power supply won't work with it, and now we discover the Canon app can't control it properly.

Science Outreach

Science outreach for a local church youth group making science more fun and exciting. Helping to inspire some children then science is not dull and writing and learning facts, but it is about observation and discovering what is happening and why.

The studio you don't see

What you don't see is often the other side of the film studio. All the lights and cameras, tripods, sound systems, maybe teleprompters, sound mixers, monitors and the ATEM to control it all.

What people think online lessons are like

When I talk to people about what I do they always seem to imagine a set-up like this with me standing in front of a camera teaching a lesson, yet this is only a small part of what the online lesson is like. The reality is often very different.

Online teaching

Some subjects work well as online teaching, like Maths. We can use the visualiser, and we can use the Wacom tablet. We can record and send out the notes in PDF format, and the ATEM Extreme makes this easy, the wireless headphones allow us to move around as necessary without wires.

Space and the Code Node

When teaching online, there is not often enough space to bring in a dynamics track, especially if you want to get it all in the frame. The smaller @pascoscientific Code Node in its car shell is much smaller and can achieve the same results

Online teaching

Teaching is challenging, but making good online teaching is much harder, and doing this live is even more difficult. The experiment has to be set up quickly, has to work and needs to be seen clearly usually from several angles

Comet hunting

Tried out some comet hunting. Used the Canon Eos R5C with a 200mm 2.8 lens. We have a lot of light pollution here, and 2500ISO and 15 secs at f5.6 gave some poor images due to camera shake because of the wind. I will try again with a bigger heavier tripod.
