What do metals look like - blowing bubbles gives a good idea. Using sheets of molymod atoms joined together shows the sliding over. Layers of tracing paper also work well, put the tracing paper in the printer and print several identical sheets. #iteachchemistry

Looking at the demo eye lens
The @pasco demo eye lens consists of a ring with two pieces of plastic either side. Water can be pumped into or out of the ring via the syringe, which cause the plastic to swell or contract forming a variable shaped lens.
Burning Magnesium
A quick video as a short directly uploaded from the phone, no description and it gets 2.7K views in 2 hrs. Perhaps I am doing this all wrong.

Photographing Crystals
Needing to set up the cameras on the microscope to gain a good view of the crystals made. The virtual of a microscope like this is the ability to place an SLR in position which is many times better than using a eyepiece camera.

Taking a close up of the eye
Trying to get a good image of the iris contracting proved to be more difficult than we expected. We needed a camera that could get in close enough and this proved to be an Olympus TG-5 on macro mode.

New Blackmagic tools for us
We have had various gripes about the hyperdeck and how we want to use it. The new HyperDeck Shuttle HD answers all our moans and gives us a free teleprompter as well. And the cloud pod shows us how online should be done. Now we are off to order one.

Lights and flags
We all use lights to illuminate the subject when filming, but flags are also useful, for blocking off light where you don't want it, getting rid of reflections which make it difficult for the students to see what you are doing clearly.

Monitoring
How big a monitor Do you Need? The answer comes - it depends on what you are doing. When I am teaching the students I use a large 55 inch monitor, because I am interacting with the student. When we are livestreaming with less interaction then a smaller screen is needed.

Scripts
Streaming or recording you always need to work from a script so you know what to say or cover next. You don't need every word planned out, often bullet points will do.

Flat LED Panels
Using just two flat led panels, one from each side and at different powers makes for great illumination. The bigger the panel the better the light, but if you are only doing head and shoulders then small is ok.

Essential kit the rode wireless Lav Mic
Probably the most important item in the kit for any video is the Rode Wireless Lav Mic. It means I can wander around the lab as I teach and the sound stays with me. The quality is great and crystal clear.
