Maths Tools

Getting the right tools for the job sometimes includes a 360 degree protractor, a bendy line for drawing graph curves, an Irish square compass, and a 3-D drawing tool as well as the usual ruler and compass. Missing is the sharp pencil.

Using the Jib

Using the jib to give a better view of what is going on. For small things we use a visualiser, but bigger things require that we use the jib, making this a two/three man operation. #iteachphysics

Creating a Music Track

With so much music copyright around getting music for a backing track can be difficult. An alternative is to compose or play your own. Since I went to the Eric Morecombe School of Music playing I get mine written professionally by @TomHorton

Rodecaster Alt Menu

One of the things I love about the Rodecaster is the Sound effects buttons that we can program with our own sound clips. I find it is necessary to go through the podcast as a rehearsal so I know what sound to add to the menu.

Benefits of a Studio Camera

We do a couple of blogs and online lessons based in a classroom. We are therefore ideally suited to using a Studio Camera. This benefits by having a large screen and a large recording device typically a large SSD. There is also a large tally light which now is essential.

Getting Rid of the Background

To improve online lessons it's a good idea to remove all the clutter out of the way. It isn't always possible to remove the background to we use this @TheWebaround Used with all without greenscreen software the videos are improved. It does come in different sizes but these don't appear to be available in the UK. And you can use blue as a green screen.

Using a Hair light

We use a back light or a hairlight to make me stand out from the background when doing online videos. Although used extensively in modelling, there is no reason why online lessons should not be of the same quality and make good use of lights to illuminate the teacher or items demonstrated. My son has more hair to light than I do.

Using Davinci Resolve 17

Using DaVinci Resolve 17 to do all the film editing and the speed editor. I love the speed editor whereas my son prefers to use hotkeys.

Mobile Phones as Cameras

More and more people have a camera these days and its their mobile phone. They boast high quality $K recording, different fixed lenses ( different cameras in effect) and digital zoom. They are small and convenient and so why do I use a much larger camera.
The answer is so simple. The quality of the lenses. The additional tools I can use. I can use a better mic rather than the built in one. I can use hundreds of accessories. I can save in different formats.. The question I find is why would I use a mobile phone?

New Clamp

A new clamp arrived today so that we can

a) attach an umbrella to a tripod,

b) Join two poles together,

c) swivel a projector stand holding two umbrellas open open and one shut,

the latter being the most useful.

Pasco Motion Sensor

Using a SWIT monitor on a Lumix Camera so I can see what the shots look like as I teach online. Its important to get the best view of the action so the student can see and understand what is going on. The Pasco Motion Sensor on the cart gives a good visual impression on what is happening.

Blackmagic Studio camera on the new Sirui 25 Tripod

Trying out the Blackmagic Studio camera on the new Sirui 25 Tripod. Seems to be a good pairing. The camera is well supported and can take the teleprompter.
